Mr. Roger Dale Ramey

Mr. Roger Dale Ramey, 71 of Mt. Airy passed away at the Joan and Howard Hospice Home on Tuesday, October 20, 2015. He was born in Surry County on September 8, 1944 to the late Letcher and Stella Doby Ramey. Mr. Ramey attended North Surry High School and retired from Proctor Silex after 38 years of service. After retirement he worked at Life Span and Northwest Medical Partners until his health no longer permitted him to continue. Mr. Ramey served as past president of the Beulah Ruritan Club and was one of the founding members of Skull Camp Fire Department where he assisted the department as the assistant chief. For many years he enjoyed coaching little league ball teams. Mr. Ramey was a faithful member of Epworth United Methodist Church, always greeting members or visitors with his infectious smile. He was always willing to assist in any way he was needed at the church. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lynn Sechrist Ramey; daughters and sons-in-law, Dena and Tim Dollyhigh, Sherry and Todd Brown, Shannon and Todd Dowell; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Vickie Ramey and Danny and Tracey Blum; grandchildren, Brittany Church and husband, Andrew, T.J. Ramey, Tess Ramey, Olivia Brown, Tori Brown, Matthew Dowell, Alisha Dowell, Devon Blum; great grandchildren, Riley and Haley. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ramey was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil Ramey and Billy Dean Ramey. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 23, 2015 at Epworth United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Kossan, Rev. Bud Cameron, Rev. Jonathan Barker, Rev. Ewell Vernon, and Lester Horton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 22, 2015 where his body will remain until the time to be taken to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.
