Mr. Roger Green Whitaker

Mr. Roger Green Whitaker, 88, of Siloam went to his Heavenly Home while surrounded by his loving family Saturday, April 2, 2016. He was born in Surry County on November 4, 1927 to the late Wiley Green and Mabel Reeves Whitaker. Mr. Whitaker bravely served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired farmer and was a member of Turkey Ford Baptist Church. Mr. Whitaker was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all he knew. He is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Peggy Ruth Hamlin Whitaker of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Chris McKeaver and Janet and Steve Fulk all of Siloam; grandchildren, Sydney McKeaver, Carrie McKeaver and Andrew Fulk; sisters and a brother-in-law, Faye Fowler of Siloam, Joyce Dobbins of Boonville and Betty and Dennis Wilson of Mt. Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Tracy Whitaker of Siloam. In addition to his parents, Mr. Whitaker was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha Billings, an infant sister, Frances Irene Whitaker; two brothers, Bobby Whitaker and Calvin Whitaker. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Turkey Ford Baptist Church with Rev. Steven Corn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mt Airy and 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Monday, April 4, 2016 at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
