Mr. Ronald Rex Melton

Mr. Ronald "Rex" Melton, age 71, of Elkin, NC passed away on Friday morning July 12, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on December 24, 1941 in Surry County to the late Herbert Coley Melton and the late Vergie Laster Melton Cockerham. He was retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co. as a Director of Operations. He attended Gum Orchard Baptist Church his entire life and professed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Saviour. Surviving is his wife Judy Wilmoth Melton, of the home; two daughters and son-in-law Tanya Reaves of Elkin, Dana and Robert Mason of Elkin; by five grandchildren Casey Billings, J.C. Mason, Mara Mason, McKenzie Reaves, and Zachary Reaves; by one sister and brother-in-law Wanda "Jeanie" and Ralph Hanes of Winston Salem; several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law Charles and Bonita Durham of Elkin. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Kay Melton Durham. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday July 14, 2013 at Gum Orchard Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Zephyr Cemetery. Rev. Joe Lambert and Rev. James Hobernicht will conduct the services. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. The family has requested in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Zephyr Cemetery Fund C/O Wayne Thompson 2402 Dobbins Mill Rd. Elkin, NC 28621.
Rex was a loving husband of almost 50 years and loved immensely by his daughters. He was an active member of the Zephyr Ruritan Club for 15 years. During that time he also served as President and Zone Governor. His sense of humor kept everyone laughing and his high morals influenced everyone he came into contact with. He is going to be missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
