Mr. Roy Pearson “Perry” Hartsock, 52, of Cana VA passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, June 29, 2016. He was born March 15, 1964 in Surry County NC to the late Jacob A. Hartsock Sr. and Patricia Q. Hartsock. Perry was a graduate of Carroll County High School and received his B.S. in Art from Radford University. Perry was a loving and devoted son, strong and steady big brother, adoring uncle and a dear friend to many. He was an avid reader from childhood with an intellectual passion for history and science fiction such as Star Wars and Dr. Who. As an elementary Art Teacher, he devoted his life to teaching children and sharing his artistic talents inspiring others to reach their creative potential. Throughout his life he was an active member of the Democratic Party who dedicated his time advocating for better schools, strong communities and equality for all. Perry loved helping his mother with her flower gardens, spending time with his family, traveling to new places, eating interesting foods and meeting new people. Perry is survived by his mother, Patricia Q. Hartsock of Cana VA, his sister and brother in-law, Ann H. Bartley and Daniel Bartley of Charlotte NC, his two nieces, Amelia Cecil and Leia Bartley both of Charlotte NC; his uncle’s, Ralph Quesinberry of Kingsport TN, Tom Hartsock of Blacksburg VA, and Robert Hartsock of Dublin VA, as well as many special cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Jacob A. Hartsock, Sr. and brother, Jacob A. Hartsock Jr. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday July 2, 2016 which will be followed by a service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Wendell Horton officiating. A private interment will be held later at the Quesinberry Family Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials to the American Cancer Society. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to all the family, friends and neighbors for the visits and food during Perry’s illness and the care and comfort given by Mountain Valley Hospice, especially Laura Patton and Laura Jennings.
