Mr. Roy Lee Hiatt

Mr. Roy Lee Hiatt, 77, of Mt. Airy passed away at his home Tuesday, December 29, 2015. He was born in Surry County on December 25, 1938 to the late James Garfield and Ila Maggie Niston Hiatt. Mr. Hiatt graduated from Catawba College, where he was a member of the tennis team. He proudly served our country in the United States Army. Mr. Hiatt retired from Perry Manufacturing as plant manager for the Dobson office and he was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. Mr. Hiatt delighted in cheering for his favorite team, “go Tarheels”. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Celeste Leigh and Troy O. Poindexter; a son and daughter-in-law, Roy Derrick and Donna J. Hiatt; five grandchildren, Cody Hiatt, Chandler Hiatt, Cherie Hutchison and husband, Michael, Paul Hooker, Jr., David Hooker and wife, Lara, ; five great grandchildren, Michael Hutchison, Charity Hutchinson, Naomi Hooker and James Hooker Daniel Hooker; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Ellen Hiatt; and the many dear friends from Pro Health where he enjoyed playing Pickle Ball, the Silver Sneakers classes, but most of all the visits with friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hiatt was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Sue Collins Hiatt. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy with Dr. Darrell Tate officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens with full military rites conducted by American Legion King Post 290. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the funeral home from 12:30 until 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to Moody Funeral Home, 206 W. Pine St., Mt. Airy, NC 27030 to assist with the funeral expenses. Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
