Mr. Roy Gene Marshall

Mr. Roy Gene Marshall, 72 of Ararat, Virginia, passed away Saturday evening, June 3, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Marshall was born on December 23, 1944 in Patrick County to the late Rev. Edward Green Marshall and Nannie Evelyn Peele Marshall. He had a love and passion for horses and hunting. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Melody Page Marshall; two daughters and a son-in-law, Claudia Stowers and husband Lee, and Sarah Marshall; four grandchildren, Daniel Stowers and wife Kalyn, Page Hodge, J. R. Armbrister, and Marshall Armbrister; four and a half great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Frankie Edwards and husband Alvin, and Frieda Hall; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilford and Erlene Marshall, and Glenn and Opal Marshall; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Marshall was preceded in death by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jay and Hattie Marshall Atkins, and Douglas and Virginia Irene Marshall Harold. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Oakdale Cemetery at 11:00 AM with Rev. Deward Scott officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday night, June 5, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mr. Marshall’s special nurse, Paige Combs, for all of the love and care shown to him during his illness.
