Mr. Roy Joseph Odum, age 83, of Dobson, NC passed away on Thursday afternoon at Northern Hospital of Surry County in Mt. Airy, NC. He was born in Surry County on April 28, 1930 to the late Cleve and Lula Davis Odum. He retired from Pike Electric as an underground lineman. He was a Member of Midway Baptist Church. Surviving is his six daughters and three sons-in-law Patricia Midkiff of Mt. Airy, Diane Woods of Mt. Airy, Nancy and Kenneth McGee of Pilot Mountain, Kathy and Dennis Tate of Mt. Airy, Sandy and Jim Kopak of Mineral Springs, VA, Janet Odum of Mt. Airy; four sons and daughters-in-law Ervin and Frankie Odum of Dobson, Bobby and Della Odum of Mt. Airy, James and Patsy Odum of Mt. Airy, Roy and Sue Odum of Dobson; twenty nine grandchildren; fifty three great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday July 28, 2013 in the Chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson by Rev. Ray Hutson, Rev. Ron and Rev. Larry Phillips with burial to follow in the Midway Baptist Church Cemetery in Mt. Airy with full Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436.
The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Roy Joseph Odum Burial Fund C/O Ervin Odum 194 River Siloam Rd., Dobson, NC 27017.
