Mr. Roy William Pennix, 85, of Mt. Airy passed away Friday, April 28, 2017 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born in Surry County on May 18, 1931 to the late, John Winfield and Etta Estelle Byrd Pennix. Mr. Pennix retired from Leonard Buildings. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Debbe and Lindsay Bobbitt of Mt. Airy, Sue and Tommy Draughn of Dobson; grandchildren, Jamie Bobbitt, Jennifer Lowe, Kevin and Lauren Simmons, and Keith and Katie Simmons; six great grandchildren; sisters, Gertie Key of High Point, Patricia Younger of Mt. Airy; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Christine and Garland Pack. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pennix was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ann Matthews Pennix; two sisters, Mary Taylor, and Margie Hicks; two brothers, Wade Pennix, and Harry Pennix. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 1, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sammy Lawson and Rev. Dale Pack officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 PM until time for the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Surry Community Health and Rehab, and to the staff of Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the love and care given to their dad.
