Mr. Roy Montgomery Tolbert, age 78 of Pilot Mountain, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Tolbert was born in Surry County August 28, 1932 to Hubert and Mecie Hodge Tolbert. He was retired from Wayne Farms after over forty years of service. Mr. Tolbert was a loving husband, step father, step grandfather and step great grandfather who will be dearly missed by all his devoted family and friends. Surviving is his wife, Ruth Beck Tolbert of the home; a step son, Kendrick Johnson and wife Mitzy of Pilot Mountain; step granddaughters, Kendra Johnson, Sarah Johnson and Maria Watson and husband, Josh; step great grandsons, Rylan and Hayston Watson; sisters and a brother-in-law, Myrtle O'Neal of Madison, Carol and Ray Beck of Pilot Mountain; brothers and sisters-in-law, Troy (twin brother) and Phyllis Tolbert of Mt. Airy; Carl and Ruby Tolbert of Pinnacle and Floyd and Mary Ann Tolbert of Ararat and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tolbert was preceded in death by his first wife, Polly Crotts Tolbert and brothers, Ralph Tolbert and Herbert Tolbert. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Blackwater Community Church by Rev. Ted Crotts, Rev. Frank Danley and Rev. Ted Turman. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Tolbert will lie in state at the church thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to The Woltz Hospice Home at 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to express a great appreciation to all the special caregivers who so lovingly helped during Mr. Tolbert's illness as well as the staff of Woltz Hospice Home and Dr. Nelson Gardner.
