Mr. Roy Wood

Mr. Roy Wood, age 87, who was a resident at the Landmark Center in Stuart, and formerly of Woolwine, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2008 at the R. J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Patrick County on January 28, 1920 to the late P.D. and Annice Conner Wood. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wood was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo Wood and Melvin Wood. He served in the United States Navy during the Normandy Invasion of World War II. Mr. Wood was a graduate of the University of Virginia and had taught at Clemson University, Asheville Biltmore College and Mars Hill College, and was of the Protestant faith.
Mr. Wood is survived by two nephews, John Wood of Stuart and Barry Wood of San Ramon, California; one niece, Ritta Rylands of Lancaster, New Hampshire, a number of great nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law, Eva Wood Pendleton.
Funeral services for Mr. Wood will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Gerald Melton officiating. Burial will follow in the Conner Family Cemetery in Woolwine with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. If desired, memorials may be made to the Patrick County Education Foundation, P.O.
