Mr. Rufus Duane "Pee Wee" Jones

Mr. Rufus Duane “Pee Wee” Jones, age 83 of Dobson passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Surry County on April 5, 1934 to the late Marshall and Flora Marsh Jones. Mr. Jones was a proud veteran of the United States Army and a member of Central View Baptist Church. He was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation after many years of dedicated years of service. Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Kathleen Johnson Jones, who never left his side during his long courageous battle with cancer; a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Janet Crump; four wonderful grandchildren, Peyton and wife Amy Crump, Patrice and husband Matthew Williams, Sarah Crump and Shaina Crump; four great-grandchildren Asher and Ainsley Crump, Jonah and Gideon Williams; a brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Annie Jones and several special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a beloved son, Monty Jones; a sister, Norma Park and a brother, Jack Jones. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 23, 2017 in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home by the Rev. Elmer Barker and Brother Mickey Brooks. Burial will follow in Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Surry County, Veterans in Distress Fund, 1218 State Street Mount Airy, NC 27030 or Crippled Children Administration, 2019 4th Avenue N, Birmingham, AL 35203 or to Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund c/o Johnny Childress 9122 NC 268 Elkin, NC 28621. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the many friends and neighbors, for all the prayers, love and support during Duane’s illness and the Veterans Administration for the work they do for all veterans. A special thanks to Wayne Branch, who was always there, day or night to assist in any way he could, and the 3rd floor nursing staff of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care.
