Mr. Sam Warren Belcher, age 92, of Woolwine passed away Friday, Aug. 19, 2016 at his home. He was born in Patrick County on May 27, 1924 to the late Robert Belcher and India Boyd Belcher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Wreathie Hylton, Winnie Hylton; six brothers, Winfred, Wayne, Lester, Wesley, Waller, Albert Belcher; and a son-in-law, Lawrence Lee “Larry” Brannon, Jr. Mr. Belcher was the owner/operator of Sam Belcher and Sons Logging and was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and trading knives.
Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Lillian Wood Belcher of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda and Vernon Harris of Stuart; Faye Brannon of Meadows of Dan; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Ann Belcher of Stuart, Ellis and Jeanette Belcher of Woolwine, Benton and Jennifer Belcher of Stuart; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver, Bernice Lanning.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Sycamore Baptist Church with Rev. Gerald Melton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6 to 8 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart and at other times at the home of his daughter, Linda Harris, 519 Elamsville Rd., Stuart, VA.
