Mr. Sidney Maxford "Max" Gardner

Mr. Sidney Maxford “Max” Gardner, age 90, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday January 24, 2017, at the Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Gardner was born in Surry County on August 13, 1926, to Jessie Sidney and Delilah Woodruff Gardner. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during World War II, and the Korean Conflict. After his discharge from the Army, Mr. Gardner served in the Army National Guard Reserves. He worked as a print shop supervisor at Renfro Corp. and retired after forty one years of dedicated service. Mr. Gardner was a retired minister, and a member of Maple Grove United Methodist Church. He was devoted member for fifty five years of the Round Peak Masonic Lodge #616 A.F. & A.M. “Max” will be dearly missed by all his family and many friends. Among those who will always cherish his memory are; an aunt, Mary Hutchins; nieces and nephews, Steve and Tammy Haynes, Johnnie and Evelyn Haynes, Stuart and Alison Williams, Martha Williams and Jim Phillips, Chris and Dawna Williams, David and Krista Williams, Linda and Jim Fant, Billy and Donna Haynes; a sister in-law Frances Williams; several great nieces and nephews; a long term care giver who was like a daughter, Carolyn Davis; special friends, Lee Barker, Hal and Linda Powell, and many more wonderful friends. In addition to his parents Mr. Gardner was preceded in death by his wife of more than fifty years, Mrs. Eva Haynes Gardner. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Maple Grove United Methodist Church by Rev. Bud Cameron. Mr. Gardner will lie in state at the church thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the wonderful care given to Mr. Gardner and his family during his stay time there.
