Mr. Simon "Lee" Pilson

Mr. Simon "Lee" Pilson, age 82 of Woolwine, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at his home. He was born in Patrick County on July 13, 1929 to the late James Garfield Pilson and Judy Via Pilson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pilson was preceded in death by a sister, Cora Ethel Joyce, and a brother, Calvin Pilson. He was a member of Fresh Harvest Christian Church where he served as a deacon, usher and treasurer, and had retired from J.P. Stevens, Woolwine. He was a charter member of the Woolwine Volunteer Fire Department and was a board member of the NAACP. He had also worked with the SHARE Program for many years.
Mr. Pilson is survived by his wife of 56 years, Della Pullins Pilson of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis Leander and Melissa Pilson of Martinsville, Marvin Elliott and Brenda Pilson of New Rochelle, New York; one daughter and son-in-law, Martha Denise Pilson-Hairston and Briant Hairston of Woolwine; five grandchildren, Caitlin Pilson, Grant Pilson, Brianna Hairston, Ethan Pilson and Jocelyn Pilson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James Jewel and Frances Pilson of Baltimore, Maryland, Alfred and Alma Pilson of Martinsville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Tishie and Franklin Reynolds of Martinsville and Avis and Junior Wimbush of Woolwine; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Pilson will be held Friday, August 19, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor LeRoy Wimbush presiding. Burial will follow in the West Liberty Cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. A wake will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
