Mr. Teddy Earl Melvin, age 68, of Lowgap, passed away Friday, May 20, 2016, at his home. Mr. Melvin was born in Guilford County on August 26, 1947, to Henry Ross and Gertrude Lane Melvin. Mr. Melvin earned his Bachelor of Science from Elon University, and then began work on his MBA program from UNCG. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy in Vietnam, receiving awards of honor. Mr. Melvin was a retired Fire Chief, but continued to work and serve in his community. He will always be remembered for his loving kindness not only by his family, but also by anyone in need that he so graciously helped over the years. Surviving is his devoted wife of twenty six years, Sheryl King Melvin; his children Elizabeth Brown and husband, Wayne, Laura Dail-Mangano, Scott Melvin and wife, Carey, Page Kennedy and husband, Michael, his youngest son, Kevin Melvin; and son-in-law, Joseph Mangano; fifteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Jeane Melvin; and so very many special friends that became family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Melvin was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Melvin. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, May 23, 2016, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Bill Spurlin. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Pilot Mtn. Post 9436 and Mt. Airy Post 2019. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lowgap Community Center at P.O. Box 234, Lowgap, NC 27024.
