Mr. Thomas Stearn Harrill

Dr. Thomas (Tom) Stearn Harrill passed away on Thursday morning, December 10th, surrounded by his family at the Woltz Hospice Home. He is preceded in death by his parents Guy and Elsie Harrill. He is survived by his wife Pamela, son Brock, daughter Laura Harrill-Liner, son-in-law Matthew Liner, granddaughters Ashely and Erin Harrill, sisters Bettie Wilson and Susan Stanley, and brother-in-law Mike Stanley. Born in Lincolnton N.C., Tom grew up in Newton N.C. He attended Appalachian State Teachers College, earning his B.S. and M.A. He later earned his PhD in Educational Psychology from Auburn University. Before moving to Surry County, he was on the faculty of Auburn University, Appalachian State University, and the University of Alabama at Montevallo. Tom retired from the Surry County School System after a fulfilling career as a psychologist helping students. An avid golfer and fisherman, he was also a Lifetime Member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks, a diehard Auburn fan, and longtime member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Family will receive friends at Moodys Funeral Home on Monday from 6-8:00 p.m. and hold an open church service at Trinity Episcopal Church Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. Graveside service will be later the same day at 2:00 p.m. at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem. Memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C. or the American Diabetes Association.
