Mr. Thomas Eugene Martin

Mr. Thomas Eugene Martin, age 68 of Sneads Ferry, NC, husband of Mrs. Marie West Martin passed away Monday, April 25, 2016 in Sneads Ferry, NC. He was born August 14, 1947 in Surry County, NC to the late Lewis Avent Martin and Mary Gertrude Hall Martin. Mr. Martin was a graduate of Pembroke College having received a bachelor degree and was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro having received two masters’ degrees. He was a well-known teacher and educator in both Stokes County and Forsyth County School Systems. He taught courses at Surry Community College and summer enrichment classes for the academically gifted students at University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Mr. Martin was a certified amateur astronomer and served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and was one of the starting families of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in King, NC. Surviving are his wife, Marie West Martin of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Martin Poore and Justin Bradley Poore of Cary, NC; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Erik Martin and Gina Kates Martin of Alpharetta, GA; four grandchildren, Taylor Marie Martin and Sydney Kates Martin both of Alpharetta, GA and Tripp Thomas Poore and Corbin Joseph Poore both of Cary, NC; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley Martin Lynch and Roger Lynch of Pinnacle, NC, Pamela Martin Miller and Hank Miller of Elkton, FL and Lynn Martin Seivers and Junior Seivers of Pinnacle, NC, two brothers and a sister-in-law, George Terry Martin of Mountain Home, ID and Richard Carroll Martin and Debbie Martin of Mt. Airy, NC; several nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, April, 30, 2016 at the Holy Angels Catholic Church. The service will be conducted by Father Lawrence Heiney. Interment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by American Legion Post 290 of King. The family will receive friends Friday night from 7:00-9:00 pm at Moody Funeral Home. The family will receive friends after the funeral at the home of Mr. Martins sister, Mrs. Shirley Lynch, 139 Deerfield Drive, Pinnacle, NC 27043.
