Mr. Thomas Kirk Rakes

Mr. Thomas Kirk Rakes, age 54 of Raleigh, North Carolina, and formerly of Patrick County, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 8, 2010. He was born on August 29, 1955 in Patrick County. He was a 1977 graduate of Elon University (then Elon College) and also attended Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, earning a distinguished Military Graduate award after which he was commissioned into the United States Army. After serving for 3 years, he was honorably discharged. He worked for many years with the Vanity Fair Corporation in Patrick County, after which he moved to Raleigh in 2002 where he worked for Ohio Casualty Insurance Company and Builder's Mutual Insurance Company.
Mr. Rakes is survived by his wife, Janet Rakes, and daughters, Lauren and Kristin of the home; his parents, Bernard and Barbara Rakes of Stuart; a brother, Donny Rakes of Nashville, Tennessee; and a sister, Lark Eaton of Stuart.
A funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Giles Presbyterian Church in Raleigh. He will then be taken to Moody Funeral Home in Stuart where the family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. A final funeral service will be held at 4:30 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Jim Churchwell and Rev. David Anderson officiating with burial following in Stuart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
