Mr. Thomas Ray “Jack" Throckmorton

Mr. Thomas Ray “Jack” Throckmorton, 85, of Cana, VA, passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Throckmorton was born August 11, 1932 in Surry County to the late William and Kate Gravely Throckmorton. In addition to his parents, Mr. Throckmorton was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Blackmon Throckmorton; and a brother, Clyde Franklin Throckmorton. Mr. Throckmorton proudly served our country in the U S Navy during the Korean War and retired from Insteel Wire Industries in Mt. Airy. During his earlier retirement he was an avid golfer, but to many he was best known for being a teller of jokes, always leaving them in laughter. Mr. Throckmorton was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Cheryl Throckmorton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Greg and Kathy Sapp, and Marilyn Boles and fiancé, Mickey Poteat all of Cana, VA; seven grandchildren, Carie Lynn Waters Love, Tiffy Cristina Moore, Noel Lee Boles, Jayson Thomas Throckmorton, Cody Gregory Sapp, Thomas Ray Throckmorton, II, and Linsay Rae Throckmorton; twelve great grandchildren, Kennedi Laiken Hicks, Kadance Gracen Grubb, Tyler David Moore, Brennen Cristian Ray Browder, Christian Jordan Throckmorton, Thomas Ray Throckmorton, III, Nicholas Konoloff Throckmorton, Trevor Uriah Sapp, Eddie Keith McCraw, Clinton Davis McCraw, Tianna Capitola McCraw, Journi Faith Mayes; one great-great grandchild, Trenton Levi Catron Moore; sister, Georgia Davis of Mt. Airy, NC; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Bobbie Ann Throckmorton of Fayetteville, NC; and a very dear and special friend Mr. Throckmorton considered a son, Scottie Cano of WV. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Salem United Methodist Church at 2 PM with burial to follow at Oakdale Cemetery, N Main St., Mt. Airy.
