Mr. Troy Franklin Reeves, 79, of Springfield, VA, former resident of Mt. Airy, departed this life Saturday, April 8, 2017. He was born in Surry County on August 28, 1937, to the late Otto and Nettie Shelton Reeves. Mr. Reeves served his country during the Vietnam War as part of the military police Army Security Agency in Arlington Hall, VA. While in service he married Catherine Gunnell of Cana, VA. They recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. He retired from Dominion Power Co. after nearly 40 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Community Church and attended Rose Hill Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA. Surviving is his wife, Catherine Gunnell Reeves; a son, Harold Dean Reeves; a grandson, Jacob Dean Reeves; sisters, Ann B.Watson, Minnie Loflen, and Ruth Draughn; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Mr. Reeves was preceded in death by sisters, Leavie Reeves, Nellie Reeves, Juanita Johnson, and Nancy Saferight; and brothers, Pete, Johnny, and Harry Reeves. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM, Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Dennis Bledsoe. Burial will follow in Gunnell Family Cemetery with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Pilot Mountain Post 9436 & Mt. Airy Post 2019. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. The family wishes to thank all those who took such good care of Mr. Reeves during his illness. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the donors choice
