Mr. Virgil Gene Spencer

Mr. Virgil Gene Spencer, age 71 of Stuart, passed away Monday, August 30, 2010 at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. He was born in Patrick County on December 6, 1938 to the late Virgil Marion Spencer and Sallie R. Rakes Spencer. He had been a 3rd shift supervisor at the United Elastic Corporation, was a member of the Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was a Gideon for over 15 years.
Mr. Spencer is survived by his wife of 51 years, Melba Flowers Spencer of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lisa Martin of Bassett and Vicki and David Bowman of Ararat; six grandchildren, Alexander Spencer Martin, Megan Elizabeth Bowman, Sydney Claire Martin, Matthew Weldon Bowman, Rachel Ann Bowman and Danielle Michelle Bowman; and one sister, Gladys Ruth Cramer of Urbana, Illinois.
Funeral services for Mr. Spencer will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Trent Wall and Dr. Jerry Whitlow officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home, and at other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideon's International, Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church Ministry Center, Trinity Christian School or to the Reynolds Homestead.
