Mr. W. Ray Branch, 88 of Mt. Airy passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, November 6, 2013. He was born in Surry County on October 23, 1925 to the late Grover Cleveland and Frances Caroline Branch. Mr. Branch retired as area supervisor from the NC Department of Transportation after 36 years of service and continued to farm for many additional years. Mr. Branch was known as a hard working man, always planning ahead for the care and well-being of his family. He was a devoted husband for 68 years, caring for his wife until the end, recognizing her beauty that he had always adored. Left to cherish his memories are, his loving wife, Edna Mae Haynes Branch of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gayle and Bill Patton, Jean and Tony Bullin all of Mt. Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Kathy Branch of Mt. Airy; grandchildren and spouses, Randy Bullin and Kelly, Krystal Kirkman and Bill, Frankie Griffith, Billy Griffith and Hollie, Michael Griffith and Lori, Brad Patton and Shelly, Marna Freeland and Ramey, Shawn Branch and Sharon C., Matt Branch and Sharon V., Charity Shelton and Kane; 24 great grandchildren; a sister, Myrtle LeQuire of Mocksville and a brother-in-law, Ray Haynes and Betty of Mt. Airy; special friends, Janie Sechrist and Crystal Pack. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Blue's Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Holder and Rev. Roland McCraw officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
