Mr. Wesley Benton Jones

Mr. Wesley Benton “Papa” Jones, age 78, of Mt. Airy, moved into the more immediate presence of the Lord on April 12, 2017. Mr. Jones was born in Surry County on June 4, 1938, to Willie Benton and Josephine Atkins Jones. He was retired from Moody Funeral Service with more than 40 years of dedicated service. Wesley was faithful to Mount Bethel Moravian Church. He was known for his kind heart and willingness to help anyone in need, friend or stranger. Wesley will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his sneaky smile and down home southern cooking. Among the many who will always cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife of almost 61 years, Charlotte Boyd Jones; his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Michele Jones; his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Mark Bowman; his adored grandchildren, Michael Brandon Jones and wife Angela; Megan Hawkins and husband Brandon; Jared Bowman and wife Brooke; Jacob Bowman and wife Heather; and Jada Wilkerson and husband Caleb; his precious great grandchildren, Sophia Bowman, Jackson Bowman, Levi Bowman, Lucy Bowman, Braylen Jones, Hudson Jones, and Benjamin Hawkins; sisters, Mae Busick, and Brenda Peele, and a brother and three sisters-in-law, Wayne and Teresa Jones, Opal Jones and Janet Jones. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by sisters, Frances Jones, and Georgie Pike; and brothers, Junior Jones and Gaston Jones. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Charles Fishel. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Mount Bethel Moravian Graveyard Fund at 2119 Wards Gap Rd., Cana, VA 24317. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff Surry Community Health & Rehab for the love and care given to Wesley during his stay there.
