Mr. William "Curtis" Bowman

Mr. William "Curtis" Bowman, age 84 of Claudville, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at his home. He was born in Patrick County on July 21, 1925 to the late Samuel "Sammy" Bowman and Maggie Pack Bowman. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by his wife, Annice Ruth Bowman; three daughters, Connie, Becky and Essie Mae Bowman and two infant daughters; one infant son; two grandchildren, D.J. Walker and Roy Land, Jr.; and two great-grandchildren, Elijah Stokes and Devan Wilson; and two sisters, Mary Marshall and Elsie Cole. He was a loving husband, father and grandpa. He was a member of Wayside Community Church, and had been a member of Mayo Mountain Baptist Church where he had been a deacon for 42 years.
Mr. Bowman is survived by seven sons, Leonard Bowman, and wife, Carol of Stuart, Melvin Bowman, and wife, Tammy of Claudville, Kenneth Bowman and partner, Evonne Hill of Claudville, Joey Walker, and wife, Sandra of Reidsville, North Carolina; Chris Walker of Reidsville, Brandon Bowman of the home and Matthew Bowman of Meadows of Dan; five daughters, Judy Land, and husband, Roy of Mayodan, North Carolina; Ruby Eastridge, and husband, Larry of Meadows of Dan, Carolyn Bowman, and husband, Mike of Claudville, Kathy Dean, and husband, Mike of Mayodan, and Charlene Briggs of Sandy Ridge, North Carolina; 23 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Dewey Bowman, and wife, Josie of Stuart; five sisters, Flossie Horton of Claudville, Mallie Hammock, and husband, Larry of Bassett, Barbara Wilson, and husband, Warren of Claudville, Annie Bowman, and husband, Johnny of Stoneville, North Carolina and Ola Dollarhite of Stuart; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Bowman will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home of Stuart with Rev. Alfred Hylton and Rev. Bernard Handy officiating. Burial will follow in the Mary Horner Walker Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at the home.
