William (Bill) Monroe Edmondson died peacefully at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson NC April 6, 2018 at the age of 88. Bill is survived by his daughter Cathy Edmondson Blevins (Larry) Westfield NC, son Alan Edmondson (Beverly) King NC, brother Keith Edmondson (Emily) Chilhowie VA, four grandchildren Amy Blevins Bodnar (Dave), Heather Edmondson Velasquez (RC), Leann Edmondson Carter, and William Edmondson (Amber), eight great grandchildren; Trey, Skyler, Bella, Draven, Benny, Malachi, Abi, and Layla.
Bill is preceded in death by two sisters Vivian Edmondson Barney, Lynchburg VA, and Margret Ann Edmondson Parrish, Damascus VA.
Bill was born November 17, 1929 Damascus VA to Wirt Everet Edmondson, Damascus VA and Mary Elizabeth Ritchie Edmondson, Crandall Va. He graduated from Damascus High School in 1948; He was an honorably discharged Korean War veteran having served in the Army from 1948 to 1952. He married Audrey Jeannette Estep Edmondson in 1952, Abingdon VA. After moving to King, NC in 1959 he was employed by Hennis Freight Lines, Winston Salem NC. He was crossing the Silver Bridge Dec 15, 1967 when it collapsed into the Ohio River killing 46, with Bill being one of only five survivors that plunged into the icy waters.
