Mr. Willie Andrew Martin

Mr. Willie Andrew Martin, 95, of Cana passed away at his home Wednesday, August 30, 2017. He was born in Carroll County, VA, July 5, 1922 to the late Andrew and Mary Thomas Martin. Mr. Martin retired from NCFI, but continued to work, farming and growing peaches until his health forced him to stop at age 82. He was a friendly man, greeting everyone with his big smile. Mr. Martin was ready to share a story of long ago without any hesitation for remembrance of the event. He is survived by his son, Junior Martin and his special friend, Mary Norman; grandchildren, Clyde Martin and wife, Lydia, Dean Martin and girlfriend, Olivia Billings, Amy Martin Whitaker and husband, Jason; great grandchildren, Keenan Gaddy, Hailey Martin and Zoe Martin and special little friends, Makylin and Brodee Billings. In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Flora Mae Hawks Martin; a daughter-in-law, Edna Lee Byrant Martin; and his sisters, Anna Rosebell Jones and Eunnice Virginia Wood. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Cana Baptist Church with Rev. Russell Vass and Rev. Keith McCraw officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday, September 1, 2017 where his body will remain to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.
