Mr. Winford Ernest Stanley

Mr. Winford Ernest Stanley, age 81 of Stuart, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was born in Patrick County on January 30, 1927 to the late Ernest A. and Alma Stanley. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stanley was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilton and Bedford Stanley; and two nephews, Barry W. and Gary Stanley. He served in the United States Army during World War II in Italy. Mr. Stanley was a member of Stuart Baptist Church for many years where he was a deacon and a member of the Men's Bible Class. He was a member of the Board of Directors at First National Bank for many years as well as a member of Stuart Rotary Club and the Patrick Springs VFW Post 7400. He was a Chevrolet dealer in Ferrum and Stuart for 33 years.
Mr. Stanley is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Alda Shelor Stanley of the home; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Eula Marshall of Laurel Fork, Hava S. Heath of Claudville, Hester and Wilburn Lynch of Mount Airy, North Carolina, Hazel and Johnnie Dunkley of Stuart and Guiwana and Lawrence Compton of Bassett; one brother and sister-in-law, Ledford "Pat" and Carol Stanley of Meadows of Dan; one sister-in-law, Lucille Stanley of Claudville; a number of nieces and nephews; and other special family members, Paul and Helen Shelor of Dublin, James and Glenna Shelor of Stuart, Willie Wood of Meadows of Dan and Lucille Shough of Patrick Springs.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Stuart Baptist Church with Dr. Clint Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadows of Dan Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at the home.
