Mr. James Raymond Johnson age 93 of 405 East Devon Drive, Mt. Airy, NC, husband of Mrs. Ivadene Mabe Johnson, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at his home. He was born February 18, 1920 in Surry County to the late Jake Benton and Mecie Goins Johnson. He was a veteran of the US Army having served during WWII and was the recipient of the Bronze Star Metal. Mr. Johnson was retired from AT&T and was a member of Bannertown Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Ivadene Mabe Johnson of the home, a granddaughter, Vicky Jo Smith of Cummings of GA; three great grandchildren, Elliott Raymond Rodriguez, Maggie Rose Smith and Chloe Regan Smith all of Cummings, GA; a son-in-law and wife, Jerry and Hassie Dawson of Mt. Airy; two step daughters, Debra Wall and her husband, Terry of Walnut Cove, NC, and Sherry Murr of Greensboro, NC; a sister, Annie Bowman, Mt. Airy, In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his first wife, Beulah Barker Johnson, second wife, Mary Dove Matthews Johnson, a daughter, Betty Jo Johnson Dawson, a son, Raymond Johnson, Jr., two sisters, Jennie Hurst Johnson and Gladys Davis and three brothers, Robert Johnson, Oscar Johnson and Ernest Bud Johnson. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, May 31, 2013, at Bannertown Baptist Church with Rev. Mickey Cogdill officiating. Interment will follow in the Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 9:30 until the hour of the service at Bannertown Baptist Church. In lieu of Flowers, Memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Service of Mount Airy is serving the Johnson family.
