Mrs. Ada Boothe Wood, age 86 of Ferrum, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Franklin Health Care Center in Rocky Mount. She was born on March 9, 1924 to the late Claude and Mamie Rakes Boothe. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Wood; one step grandchild, Kris Mitchell; three brothers, Grady, "Junior" and I.J. Boothe; and one sister, Lorene Puckett. She was a member of Smith River Church of the Brethren and had worked for United Elastic Corporation.
Mrs. Wood is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and David Hazelwood of South Boston, Peggy and Mike Mitchell of Ferrum, Nancy and Danny Nelson of Sandy Ridge, North Carolina, and Beverly and Sammy Morrison of Woolwine; one son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Robin Wood of Ferrum; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; one brother, Edgar Lee Boothe of Ferrum; and two sisters, Dena Reynolds of South Boston and Ovilla Bowling of Danville.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wood will be held Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Smith River Church of the Brethren with Pastor Dewayne Troutt officiating. Burial will follow in the Charity Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church, and at other times at the home of Beverly Morrison, 305 Hillside Road, Woolwine, Virginia 24185.
