Mrs. Addie Mae Scott Hiatt age 85 of 3018 Westfield Road, Mt. Airy, NC, wife of 69 years to Mr. Russell R. Hiatt went to be with her heavenly father on Sunday, December 2, 2012. She was born December 30, 1926 in Surry County to the late Coy Scott and Onie Collins Scott Clifton. She was retired from Spencer's Inc. and Triple A Drug and Fountain. She was a member of Shelton Church of the Brethren. Mrs. Hiatt was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She was a friend to all and was known to be a peacemaker. Surviving are her husband, Russell R. Hiatt of the home, a son, Billy R. Hiatt, Mt. Airy, a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Jerry Stone, Mt. Airy, four grandchildren and spouses, Kim H. Shelton , Chris and Melissa Hiatt, Emily and Mike Hawks, Amanda and Mike Phillips all of Mt. Airy, fourteen great grandchildren and a spouse, Jacob and Erin Hiatt, Rachel Hiatt, Scarlett Hiatt, William Shelton, Addison Shelton, Keevie Newsome, Klay Newsome, Katey Newsome, Maddison Hawks, Morgan Hawks, Mason Hawks, Maggie Hawks, Dakota Phillips and Sterling Phillips and a great great grandson, Gibson Delph. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hiatt was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, JoAnne Hiatt and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Iris Hiatt and three sisters, Rejina White,, Reba Quesinberry and Daisy McGillvray and two brothers, Elbert Scott and Herbert Scott. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Shelton Church of the Brethren. The service will be conducted by Rev. Mickey Cogdill and Rev. Ted Turner. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 pm Tuesday at Moody Funeral Home where her body will remain until time for Mrs. Hiatt to be carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes before the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 400 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express a "special thanks to the doctors, nurses and the certified nurse assistants on the second floor at Northern Hospital of Surry County and to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care..
