Mrs. Alice Willodene Hatcher

Mrs. Alice Willodene Hatcher went to her Heavenly home on Wednesday, August 21, 2013. She was surrounded by her family as she entered into the presence of her Heavenly Father. She was born August 24, 1935 in Westfield, NC to the late Albert "Bud" Allred and Lavis Jackson Allred Beamer. She met her husband David Hatcher while still in high school (Flat Rock). They were married on May 9, 1955 in Harlington, TX (Harlington Airbase). After a honeymoon in Mexico, they traveled all over the world with the Air Force before settling in Mount Airy. Willodene was a kindhearted soul who loved to laugh and take care of her family. She loved square dancing, playing bridge, and watching her grandchildren play sports. While we miss her dearly, we rejoice that she is with her Lord and Savior. We were blessed to have her for our wife and mother. The family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers at Home Instead Senior Care and at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care. And also her wonderful friends in the Rebekah Sunday School class at the First Baptist Church in Mount Airy, of which she was a member for over 45 years. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, David Hatcher, daughters and sons-in-law Liz and Marty Johnson of Mt. Airy, and Alison and Chuck Cardwell of Charlotte, brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Bonnie Allred of Mt. Airy, granddaughter Ashley Johnson, grandsons Eddie Johnson, David Cardwell, Josh Cardwell, and Sam Cardwell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Mary Baldwin, step sisters Betty Jo Cook, Wanda Baker, Anna Palmer, and step brother Albert Allred. A service is planned for 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Mount Airy on Saturday, August 24, 2013. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will greet friends preceding the service Saturday from 10:00 until 11:00 in the Fireside Parlor at First Baptist Church, 714 N. Main St. Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care at 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to Home Instead of Mount Airy at 172 W. Independence Blvd., Mount Airy, NC 27030.
