Mrs. Alma Fain Hughes

Mrs. Alma Elizabeth Fain Hughes, 93, of Stuart passed away peacefully at her home on October 15, 2017. She was born in Patrick County on May 15, 1924 to the late Elijah and Sarah Lawson Fain. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband, Murry Hughes; four brothers Roy, Dewey, James, and Thomas Fain; and five sisters Maude, Annie, Quennie, Ollie, and Irene Fain. Mrs. Hughes had retired from United Elastic and also worked in the cafeteria at Stuart Elementary School. She was a member of Community Primitive Baptist Church.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by her children, Joan H. Turner of Stuart, Murry Hughes Jr. and wife Charlotte of Stuart; three grandchildren, Jamie Turner, Shannon Kendrick and husband, Terry, Cheyenne Marshall and husband, Kaleb; five great-grandchildren, Cathleen and Will Turner, Leah, Tyson and Cameron Kendrick. Also, several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Lois Joyce.


Funeral Services will be held Wednesday October 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Lewis Vass and Pastor Mark Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Hughes-Lawson family cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at her home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 18981 Jeb Stuart Hwy, Stuart, VA 24171 or to Community Primitive Baptist Church, 735 Clark House Farm Rd., Stuart, VA 24171.
