Ann West Hale, 77, of Stuart, passed away peacefully at her home on October 3, 2010. Ann was born in Mount Airy, North Carolina, to John J. West and Louisa Coles West. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy L. Hale, Jr.; a sister, Mary Lee Hudgins; and two brothers, Edward Coles West and
John D. West. Ann is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, William J. and Betty West, of Penhook; a son, Matt Corbett, of Sunbury, Pennsylvania; a son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Karen Corbett, of Ararat; sisters-in-law Peggy Thomas and Barbara West; grandchildren, Jacqueline Corbett, Erica Cipko, Alex Cipko, and Marshall Corbett; and wonderful friends Jo Burnette, Martha "Mott" Martin, Betty Nester, Carol Lawson, Jean Wheby, Linda King, Cindy Salyer, Barbara Spangler, and Erlene Handy.
After graduating as valedictorian of her class at Stuart High School, Ann earned a diploma in nursing at the University of Virginia. As a registered nurse, she embodied care and professionalism at R.J. Reynolds-Patrick County Memorial Hospital in Stuart. After retirement, her interests included the School of Nursing at the University of Virginia, a number of charities, and, notably, the game of golf. She was a dedicated member of Stuart United Methodist Church, where a memorial service for Ann will be
held on Thursday, October 7th, at 6:00 P.M. The family will receive friends at the Church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the University of Virginia School of Nursing, P.O. Box 800826, Charlottesville, Virginia, 22908, or to Stuart United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 946, Stuart, Virginia, 24171.
