Ann Turner Nolen Hughes, MA, LMHC, NCC, NCGC

Born as Ann Turner Nolen, was the only child to Col. George M. Nolen and wife
Georgie on April 8, 1933 in Fort Meade, MD., died February 15, 2014, at Hospice
of Health First, Palm Bay, FL., after a brief illness. Mrs. Hughes was a resident of
Melbourne, FL. for the past 32 years. Mrs. Hughes was an accomplished Mental
Health Counselor with several degrees, national acknowledgements and was
published many times during her career. She attended Duke University and
Rollins College. She was an active member of The Brevard Community Choir and
Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. On October 21, 1961 she married Edwin L.
Hughes and they were together until his passing in January 2009. She had one
son, Andrew, now 51. Growing up as a military brat, she was well traveled, living
in Munich Germany, Tokyo Japan, The Philippines, Washington State, New
Mexico, just to name a few. Once married to Ed, she lived in Bedford, NH.,
Pittsford, NY., Brookfield, WI., Santa Barbra, CA., Northridge, CA. and Los
Angeles, CA. Ann took pride in the fact she had set foot in all 50 states during her
life. Ann was a compassionate and loving woman. She never took “No” for an
answer, always fighting for people and causes she believed in. No kill cat shelters
were among her favorite charities. Ann is survived by her son Andrew George,
her stepsons John and Jim, their wives, Mary and Sue, nieces and nephews
Jessica, Nyssa, Teagan and Richard and her two rescue kitties, Gavi and Geri.
Ann Turner Nolen Hughes was granddaughter of the 1959 8th Annual
Patrick/Henry Counties Allied Families of VA., Inc. – Nancy Jane Turner (wife of
Alvah Jeremiah). A memorial service is planned for Saturday, April 9th,1 pm at
The Jeremiah Turner Cemetery, SR 712 Heidelbach School Road, Stuart, VA
24171.
