Mrs. Barbara Corson Hopkins

Mrs. Barbara Corson Hopkins, age 87, of Stuart passed away Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015 at the Blue Ridge Therapy Connection in Stuart. She was born in Flushing, NY on March 25, 1928 to the late LeRoy and Lillian Sharpe Corson. Barbara was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church since 1994. She was a graduate of Bayside High School in Bayside, NY. She attended Richmond Professional Institute in Richmond, VA and later worked as a Dental Assistant on Madison Ave. in New York City. She also lived with her family in Old Bridge, NJ for 33 years where she worked as a secretary to the Minister of the Simpson United Methodist Church. She started the monthly news bulletin in the 1970’s and it is still published today. She liked being a stay at home Mom while her children were small. Although Barbara was born and raised in New York City she loved her home, church, friends, and neighbors here in Patrick County.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, George Kenneth Hopkins of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Gary Griffith of Greensboro, NC; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Arlene Hopkins of Barnegat, NJ; four grandchildren, Aaron Griffith and wife, Lauren of Kona, HI, Alyssa Griffith of Greensboro, NC, Christopher Hopkins and wife, Lindsay of Carlisle, PA, Matthew Hopkins of Barnegat, NJ; one brother, Grant Corson and wife, Mutsumi of Essex Junction, VT; four sisters-in law, Dorothy Tatum, Anita Cox, Mae Pace, Marie Edwards all of Stuart; one brother-in-law, Clint Hopkins and wife, Nancy of Stuart; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Sycamore Baptist Church with Rev. Gerald Melton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:30 to 7:30 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
