Mrs. Bertie Mae Dodd (France) Gentry, age 89, formerly of Surry County, passed away Friday, December 1, 2017, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. She was born December 25, 1927 in Stokes County to the late Bosie and Nora France Dodd. She was raised by a loving grandmother, Sara France “Granny.” In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a loving husband, Ervin Elsworth Gentry; one sister, Annie Maude Hill; two brothers, Harry Dodd and Grover Dodd; a loving aunt and uncle, Ernest and Dora France. Mrs. Gentry was employed by Nub and Peggy McCormick and Jake and Bertie Branch. She retired from Tultex, Inc. in Dobson. She was a faithful member of Field of Grace Baptist Church prior to moving to Charlotte to be closer to family. She built lifelong friendships with the congregation and Pastor Joey Lane. She is survived by three daughters; Nettie “Janie” Gentry and Judy Gentry of Charlotte and Lottie Williams (Willie) of Durham; three sons, Ervin Gentry Jr. (Linda), Charlie Gentry, and Kenneth Gentry (Kim) all of Charlotte; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three special cousins, Erlene Butler of Winston Salem, Katie Dobson of Dobson and Catherine Green of Pilot Mountain; three sisters-in-law, Lula Gentry of Jonesville; Viola Hampton of Elkin and Sarah Bell Gentry of Winston Salem. Visitation will be Monday, December 4, 2017 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm at Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson. The service will follow at 2:00 pm in the Chapel with Pastor Joey Lane and Pastor Abdul Muwwakkil officiating. Interment will be in Crestwood Memorial Gardens.
