Mrs. Bessie Lillian Marsh Draughn

Mrs. Bessie Lillian Marsh Draughn age 91 of Mt. Airy, NC, widow of Mr. Frank Otis Draughn, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2013 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was born July 8, 1922 in Surry County to the late James Virgil and Rosetta Key Marsh. Mrs. Draughn was retired from Spencer's Inc. She was a homemaker and was a member of Blues Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Marsha Ellis and Richard, Gibsonville, three sons and daughters-in-laws, James Franklin "Jimmy" Draughn and Nelda, Mt. Airy, Walter Gray Draughn and Pam, Ararat, NC, Jeffery Dwayne Draughn and Becky, Mt. Airy, eleven grandchildren and spouses, Kelly Wise and Brian, Jill Tucker and Cory, Jamie Draughn and Alicia, Melissa Marsh and David, Jennifer Draughn and Marcus, Natalie Badgett and Garth, Leslie Modlin, Krista Overman and Michael, Dixie Draughn, Brandi Simpson and Kyle, and MaKayla Draughn, eighteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Draughn was preceded in death by four sisters, Annie Marsh, Mozelle Osborne, Maybelle Lawrence and Bert Badgett and three brothers, Gilliam Marsh, Ralph L. Marsh and Gaston Marsh. Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Blues Grove Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by Rev. Tony Holder and Rev. Sammy Lawson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 1:30 pm Sunday until time of the service at Blues Grove Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Northern Hospital of Surry County Skilled Care Unit, 830 Rockford St., Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express a "special" thanks to The staff of Northern Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit for all the loving care extended to Mrs. Draughn during her illness. .
