Mrs. Betty Imogene Hiatt

Mrs. Betty Imogene Hiatt, 87, of Mount Airy passed away at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. She was born in Surry County on May 8, 1930 to the late James and Maggie Shelton Hensley. She retired from Sara Lee Hosiery then went on to help her husband with AAA Soda Fountain until they both retired in 2003. She was a devoted member of Shelton Church of the Brethren. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, R.J. Hiatt; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Debbie Hiatt of Mount Airy; a granddaughter and her husband, Ashley and Luke Graham of Mount Airy; and a great-grandson, Ryan Graham of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hiatt was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Shelton; and a sister, Margaret Hensley Wood. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Shelton Church of the Brethren with Pastor Joe Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Shelton Church of the Brethren Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home.
