Mrs. Betty Jean Baker Shelton, age 81, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Friday, March 31, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Surry County on August 7, 1935 to the late Floyd Clobis and Myrtle Smith Baker. Mrs. Shelton was a retired Hairdresser having worked many years at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living. She was dedicated to her family having worked side by side with her husband on the family farm as well as a very talented homemaker, seamstress and cook. She was a dedicated member of Pinnacle View Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was very active in the Women’s Group. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 66 years, Eugene Frank Shelton of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Barry Hall of Pinnacle; two sons and daughters-in-law Larry and Debbie Shelton and Darrell and Susan Shelton of King; her beloved grandchildren, Bryan Hall, Denise Hall, Matthew Shelton, Joshua Shelton, Jordan Edmonds and Emma Shelton; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Allie Mae and Wayne Pruitt of Pinnacle and Rebecca and Richard Jarrell of Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Wayne Baker of Pinnacle; brothers-in-law, Wayne and wife Lois Tilley, Wayne and wife Hilda Shelton, Kenneth and wife Susan and a sister-in-law, Glenna Bullington; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to her parents, a brother, Gray Baker; a sister-in-law, Jewel Baker; a brother-in-law, Roger Shelton and her father-law and mother-in-law, Fletcher and Sadie Shelton preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 4 pm on Monday, April 3, 2017 at Pinnacle View Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronnie Chamblin and Mr. Andy Edmonds. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 2 to 4 pm. Special thanks to the many friends, neighbors, church family and caregivers for all the love and compassionate care shown to our family during Betty’s illness. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
