Mrs. Betty Sue Whitaker Spicer, age 66, of Traphill, NC passed away at her home on Saturday December 17, 2016. She was born in Surry County on August 4, 1950 to the late Grady Whitaker and the late Wavie Lawson Whitaker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Spicer; three sisters, Bessie Whitaker, Bonnie McNeil, and Louise Westmoreland. She was retired from Hugh Chatham Nursing Home as a CNA, and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Surviving are her two sons, Brady Spicer and Ricky Spicer both of the home; step son Mark Spicer of Hamptonville; grandchildren Amanda and Christopher Shumate, Dillion Anderson, Chasity Leann Spicer, Brittany Spicer, Matthew Spicer; two great-granddaughters, Sadie Lee Anderson and Emma Jade Shumate; sisters and brother-in-law, Myrtle Pardue of Jonesville, Rosa Moon of Rural Hall, Sandra and Curtis Hayes of Jonesville; brother, Pete Whitaker of Winston-Salem; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday December 22, 2016 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Crestwood Memorial Gardens in State Road. Rev. Danny Dodds will conduct the service and the Eulogy will be given by her sister Sandra Whitaker Hayes. The family will receive friends on Thursday at the church from 12:30 PM until the time of her service at 2:00 PM. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 593 Pleasant Hill Dr., Elkin, NC 28621.
