Mrs. Beulah Elizabeth Hughes, age 84 of Stuart, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was born in Stokes County, North Carolina on October 3, 1926 to the late William Henry and Sarah Ada Stevens Adkins. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her first husband, James Early Harbour; a daughter, Eunice Bates; an infant son; six sisters, Hester Rorrer, Annie Branch, Kathy Craddock, Louise Clifton, Ruby Craddock and Roxy Craddock; and three brothers, Hydie, John and Ed Adkins. She was a longtime member of Community Primitive Baptist Church, and retired from Bassett-Walker Industries.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by her husband, Leonard Gilmer Hughes of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Waitman Wade of Stuart; four grandchildren, Dale Wade and wife, Shirley of Stuart, Randy Lawless and wife, Stephanie of Stuart, Timmy Wade of Loris, South Carolina, Penny Winfree and husband, Lee of Colfax, North Carolina; and five great-grandchildren, Seth Wade of Stuart, Jordan Dalton and Ashley Dalton, both of Colfax, and Morgan Lawless and Hunter Lawless, both of Stuart.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hughes will be held Sunday, March 6, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Lewis Vass, Elder Donnie Conner and Rev. Bernard Handy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at the home.
