Mrs. Carrie DeHart Via Westmoreland

Mrs. Carrie DeHart Via Westmoreland, age 95 of Stuart, and formerly of Horsepasture, passed away Monday, October 27, 2008 at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. She was born in Patrick County on April 7, 1913 to the late Elder Leander DeHart and Cornelia Hall DeHart. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Westmoreland was preceded in death by her first husband, Amos B. Via, her second husband, A. L. Westmoreland, Sr.; two sisters, Bell Eaton and Delpha Noonkester; and three brothers, William, Sammy and Euell DeHart. She was a member of Old Spoon Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
Mrs. Westmoreland is survived by one son, Kermit Via of Martinsville; four daughters, Shelby Oliva of Apple Valley, California, Joyce Via of Los Angeles, California, June Via of Fort Mills, South Carolina and Janet Thomas of Helendale, California; one step-son, A. L. Westmoreland, Jr. of Butler, Missouri; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; .
Funeral services for Mrs. Westmoreland will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Dean Eaton and Pastor Wayne DeHart officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Spoon Creek Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
