Mrs. Clara Pinckard Boaz, age 93 of Richmond and formerly of Stuart passed away Saturday at the Beth Sholom Nursing Home in Richmond. She was born on July 6, 1917 in Franklin County to the late James Robert Orander and Jessie Nickelson Orander. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert Clyde "Buck" Boaz. She graduated from Longwood University (formally Farmville State Teacher's College) with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught for 35 years, 34 of which were in Stuart Elementary School. She was an active member of Patrick County Education Association, Virginia Education Association, National Education Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Society (Beta Rho Chapter), Patrick County Retired Teachers Association. She received the Longwood University Distinguished Alumni Community Services Award in 1997. She also was active in a number of civic organizations including J.E.B Stuart Women's Club, Stuart Parent Teachers Association, Stuart Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a member of Stuart United Methodist Church where she was a teacher and member of the Women's Society of Christian Education.
Surviving are a daughter and son in law, Mary Elizabeth Boaz Whitley-Baron and Bruce of Manakin Sabot; and one grandson, John Robert Whitley of Pittsboro, NC.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Stuart United Methodist Church with Rev. Tommy Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in the Stuart Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 4 to 6 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
