Mrs. Claudine Poindexter Byrd

Mrs. Claudine Poindexter Byrd, age 91, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning March 3, 2013 at the Hugh Chatham Nursing Center in Elkin, NC. She was born in Surry County, on May 30, 1921 to the late Gilmer and Lizzie Wood Poindexter Bray. She was a member at Fairview Baptist Church and was retired from Chatham Manufacturing in Elkin. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Elton Byrd and one daughter Judy Elizabeth Byrd Cockerham Combs; two brothers Fred Poindexter and Ray Bray. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law Amy Jo and Arnold Gray Childress of Dobson; two grandchildren Chris and wife Katrina Cockerham, Amanda and husband Jamie Gann; four great-grandchildren Conner Cockerham, Isabella Cockerham, Eli Cockerham, Elizabeth Gann; sister-in-law Fern Poindexter; a special niece Freddie Stanley of Dobson; special friend and caregiver Arlene Marsh of Dobson. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday March 5th at Fairview Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. Dr. Andy Atkins and Jamie Gann will conduct the services. There will be no formal services held at the funeral home. Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson is serving the Byrd family.
