Mrs. Cora Ethel Joyce, age 87 of Martinsville, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2006 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. She was born in Patrick County on June 17, 1919 to the late James G. and Judy Via Pilson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lee Joyce; a great-granddaughter, Jasmyne Danyel Ingram; and a brother, Garfield Pilson. She was a member of West Liberty Christian Church.
Mrs. Joyce is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward Lee and Willmond Joyce of Baltimore, Maryland and Walter Louis and Iowa Joyce of Martinsville; three daughters and a son-in-law, Judy P. Joyce of Martinsville, Barbara A. Hoyman of Takoma Park, Maryland, and Linda J. and Kenneth Rucker of Martinsville; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Tishie P. Reynolds of Martinsville and Avis P. Wimbush of Woolwine; and three brothers, Jewel Pilson of Baltimore, Maryland, Simon Lee Pilson of Woolwine and Alfred Pilson of Martinsville.
Funeral services for Mrs. Joyce will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Rev. William H. Hairston officiating. Burial will follow in the West Liberty Cemetery. A wake will be held Saturday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at other times at the home of a daughter and son-in-law, Linda J. and Kenneth Rucker, 945 Carver Road, Martinsville, Virginia.
