Mrs. Devader Wood Childress

Mrs. Devader Elizabeth Wood Childress, age 98 of Elkin passed away Monday June, 5, 2017 at Chatham Nursing Center. She was born, January 1, 1919 in Surry County to the late Granville Sebron and Queen Victoria Hutson Wood. Mrs. Childress was also preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Monroe Childress and two children, Roger Eugene Childress and Peggy Elizabeth Carpenter and her, grandson, Monty Carpenter. She was retired from a lifetime of farming and lastly from the furniture industry. She was a member of Stony Knoll United Methodist Church. There will be a graveside service conducted at 3:00 PM Tuesday, June 6, 2017 in the Stony Knoll United Methodist Church Cemetery. She is survived by her granddaughters and their husbands; Darlene and Jeff Marion of Rural Hall and Becky and Jimmy Tomlin of Greensboro; daughter-in-law, Leslie Hutchens of Rockford; seven great grandchildren and four additional grandchildren. Special thanks to Megan, Nancy and Kathy of Wake Forest Baptist Care at Home Hospice and the staff of Chatham Nursing Center for their care of Mrs. Childress. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wake Forest Baptist Care at Home Hospice, 126 Executive Drive, Wilkesboro, NC 28697 or to Stony Knoll United Methodist Church, 894 Stony Knoll Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
