Mrs. Doris Helen Gilbert Collins

Mrs. Doris Helen Gilbert Collins, 93 of Stuart, passed away Saturday at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. She was born in Patrick County on September 9, 1918 to the late Sebastian and Lizzie Beth Dalton Gilbert. In addition to her parents Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her husband William Collins; a son Gilbert Collins; a daughter-in-law, Jean Collins, two sisters, Cornelia Gilbert and Dale Gilbert; and a brother Melvin Gilbert. She had been a member of New Hope United Methodist Church for 76 years and had worked in the Dietary Department for the Hospital and Patrick County School Systems. Doris was lovingly called "Grandma" by her church and the community, she loved tending to her flower gardens, baking chocolate pies and preparing Sunday dinner for her family.
Mrs. Collins is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Greg Carlson of Stuart; three sons and daughters-in-law, Clarence and Shirley Collins of Stuart, David and Gail Collins of Stuart and Garland and Gloria Collins of Stuart; eight grandchildren, Mark Collins, Mike Collins, Wayne Collins, Randall Collins, Tony Collins, Jeannie Collins, James Dillon, and Jason Dillon; nine great grandchildren, Katie Collins, Cody Collins, Jacob Collins, Benjamin Collins, Tucker Collins, Brooke Collins, Austin Menear, Clay Menear, and Ella Menear, two sisters; Thelma Wilson of Stuart and Blanche Gilbert of Roxboro, NC
Funeral services for Mrs. Collins will be held on Monday, March 19, 2012 at New Hope United Methodist Church at 2:00pm with Rev Mike Hundley and Pastor Mark Collins officiating burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friend a half hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the PARC Workshop, C/o Henry Ayers, 674 Johnson Street, Stuart, VA 24171 or to the Developmental Center, C/o Penny Simmons Belcher, P.O. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 19, 2012 at 2:00pm at New Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Hundley and Pastor Mark Collins officiating with burial immediately following in the cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held a half hour prior to the service at the church.
