Mrs. Dorothy Mae Robertson Hayes, 95 of Mt. Airy passed away Monday, October 31, 2011 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mrs. Hayes was born on June 5, 1916 in High Point, NC to the late Thomas and Cassie Southern Robertson. Working in the textile industry at Lynn Hosiery, Quality Mills and then Spencer's was just a part of Mrs. Hayes life, she was also a homemaker, the devoted wife of a farmer, and a loving mother and grandmother. She loved working in her flowers, gardening and was well known for her beautiful crocheting. A dedicated reader of the Mt. Airy News, she would read the paper daily from start to finish and sometimes more than once. Mrs. Hayes is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James and Mary Alice Hayes of Mt. Airy; two grandchildren, Ashlie Hayes of Mt. Airy and Bryan Hayes of Wilmington, NC; sisters-in-law, Roxie Hayes, Wanda Hayes, and Nancy Hayes and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her husband, James Welch Hayes; four sisters, Jettie York, Ila Wall, Gertrude Creed and Minnie York; two brothers, Burton and Curtis Robertson. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Roger Gilbert, Rev. Justin Nelson and Rev. Robbie Vance. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy and at other times at the home of her son, James Hayes, 204 Burnley Lane, Mt. Airy. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite, 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to express their love and appreciation to long term caregivers, Flannery Heath and Carol Casstevens of Mountain Valley Hospice and also for the caring staff of the Woltz Hospice Home for the wonderful care that was given to Mrs. Hayes during her illness.
