Mrs. Dorothy Marie Smith Lankford

Mrs. Dorothy Marie Smith Lankford, age 84, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mrs. Lankford was born in Stokes County on April 24, 1933, to the late Rufus and Gracie Southern Smith. She was retired from Spencer’s after 33 years of employment, and went back to college to earn a certificate as a CNA. While she was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she nurtured all who crossed her path in an humble, Christ-like manner. Mrs. Lankford was a faithful member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church for over 35 years. Her servant’s heart led her to serve in many capacities at the church including teaching Sunday School, serving in the WMU, working with the welfare ministry and volunteering with compiling the weekly bulletin. Surviving are daughters and son-in-law, Gloria and Brett Best, and Deborah McMillian, all of Mt. Airy; sons and daughter-in-law, Rufus Junior “Bo” and Maribel Lankford of Concord, Michael Dean “Joe” Lankford of Mt. Airy; nine grand-children: Caroline McMillian, Amanda Lankford, Lisa Dollyhigh, Amber Fleming, Sean Best, Sierra Best, Bo Dean Lankford, Misty Cooke, April Stancil; five great grandchildren: Brayden Dollyhigh, Bryar Dollyhigh, Sophie Dollyhigh, Jayle Bryant, Christopher Luke Fleming; sisters: Beulah Smith Robbins of Walnut Cove, Pauline Smith Flinchum of Danbury; brother and sister-in-law: Joseph and Hilda Smith of Alta Vista, VA; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lankford was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Lankford; a son-in-law, Gilbert McMillian; a brother-in-law, Ray Flinchum. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert McCrary officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 PM until time for the service at the church. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC 27017.
