Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Coe McCormick

Dorothy Coe McCormick, 88, of the Stony Knoll community in Dobson, NC, passed away surrounded by family and friends on Friday, May 19, 2017. Dorothy was born on her family farm in Stony Knoll on February 20, 1929 to the late Grady and Lela Coe. She married Archie Deering McCormick on June 1, 1946. Dorothy was self-employed at Stony Knoll Grocery and Archie’s Auto Sales for many years. Dorothy was an extremely active, life-long member of Stony Knoll United Methodist Church where she served as pianist and organist since she was a teenager. Throughout the years, Dorothy fulfilled a variety of roles in the church and community. She was greatly appreciated for visiting the sick and arranging flowers for the church. She was also involved in the Copeland Seniors and South Surry Ladies Auxiliary organizations. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and ever-present figure in the upbringing of her grandchildren. Dorothy leaves to cherish her love and memories to her two daughters and sons-in-law Kay and Lynn Crouse, Kathy and Van Coe; four grandchildren, Caroline Crouse McCrary (Justin), Alison Crouse, Patricia Coe Hoosier (Jonah), Ethan Coe; her brother Ray Coe (Jewel). Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband and infant daughter, Patricia Ann. The services celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held at 11:00am on Monday, May 22, 2017 at Stony Knoll United Methodist Church conducted by Reverend Jimmy Lawton with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson, NC who is serving the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Stony Knoll United Methodist Church Cemetery or Building Funds c/o Kay Crouse 105 Stratford Place Dobson, NC 27017.
